I loved Annie Bot! Annie is a “cuddle bunny,” aka an AI sex bot in this novel set in the near future. Her owner is Doug, who by all accounts is a good owner. He treats her well, has a nice home, gives her plenty of nice clothes, and even gives her a phone to talk to her AI best friend and cousin. But as Annie ages, she becomes more human, and questions her loyalty to Doug vs her own interests. Doug makes changes to her body when she was perfectly happy with her body the way it was, and Annie wants to learn programming, when noone else seems to think it’s a good idea.
As Annie learns from her environment, she becomes more self-aware and able to make choices, thus making her more human. I loved this take on the human relationship with AI. It was a short book as well which is always a plus with me. One of my favorite reads so far of the year,
