Last week I was jonesing to read but I had the attention span of a gnat (something that happens quite often) so I logged into my library’s Hoopla app and browsed the graphic novels. This series is one that has grabbed my attention frequently but I hadn’t read it. I don’t think I’m really much of a horror fan but I really like the title of this series- it’s so retro and vague, and also, a little funny?
Anyhow, I was hooked at volume one, and I blazed through all six volumes, ready to move on to volume seven, only to discover that it has not been published yet, and I have to wait three more weeks. Curses!
This is the story of Erica Slaughter, monster hunter. She comes from a family of monster hunters, who we learn more about in later volumes. The monsters are only visible to children and the hunters, and they kill children. Only, Erica’s family is not actually interested in stopping the monsters, only covering up their crimes. Later volumes get into her back story as a child and how she became a hunter, which were my favorite parts of the series. There are different types of hunters, those that travel alone versus in packs, etc.
This series has some graphic violence, so if that’s not your thing, I don’t recommend it to you. I like Erica as a hero and look forward to additional volumes of the series.
